Learning Support

Our Lady of Good Counsel School is thrilled to offer a Learning Support Program located in our new Resource Room (A2). The room is staffed with our Learning Support teacher, Mrs. Carren Carroll and services students in Grades K - 6 in the areas of English Language Arts and Math. Mrs. Carroll works closely with classroom teachers to modify and adapt learning strategies so students can successfully meet learning outcomes.  

Objective:

• to provide a school funded Learning Support Program to meet the varying learning needs of students beyond our current Catapult services.

Mission:

• Our Lady of Good Counsel School’s Learning Support Program works to support students’ varying learning styles and to empower students to become autonomous, lifelong learners.

Goal:

• to assist students in gaining the skills and confidence needed to participate and succeed in the regular classroom.

Criteria for eligibility:

• Formal evaluation of a learning difference 
• Demonstration of an educational need for accommodations because a learning difference is preventing or limiting a student’s ability to progress or demonstrate mastery of a skill
• A review of student history
• Teacher recommendation
• Benchmark assessments

The Learning Support Program operates in conjunction with the school Instructional Support Team which consists of the Principal, counselor, Learning Support teacher and several classroom teachers. This team works with the student’s classroom teacher and parents to determine what strategies and interventions will be needed. These may include:

• Direct Learning Support services
• Assessments by outside agencies
• Additional classroom modifications
• Individual Student Support Plan (SSP)
• Specialized individual or group instruction
• In classroom support
